Hi there! My name is Teresa, but family and friends call me Tee. I’m a wife, mom and an island girl at heart with a passion for storytelling.
My love for storytelling came at a young age. My parents would take my two siblings and I to the state library every Saturday morning for story time. We were usually the first ones there, even before the storyteller, and I would run to the area of the library where story time was being held and hold my “spot”. I wanted to be front and center so I could soak in the story and imagine I was part of it.
When we got home, I pulled out a book from our library at home and read to my younger siblings. Some of the words I didn’t know, but I would make them up.
I took that love through high school and was selected to be the student writer for my community newspaper, North Shore News, which reached 10,000 + homes on O’ahu, Hawaii. I also shared stories throughout my undergraduate years at Howard University, as a contributing writer for TheHilltop. The daily newspaper was shared with the student body population of 10,000 + as well as staff and faculty. I interviewed legislators on Capitol Hill about issues that affected student voice. I also shared stories through producing segments for CNN and the Washington Tribune as their selected intern.
Oprah Winfrey and Lisa Ling were my two inspirations in great storytelling. Their work also inspired me to get my undergraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism and English (Howard University in Washington, D.C) , and my graduate degree in Mass Communications (Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia). I don’t just write, film, record and edit stories, I also tell them – by being a member of Toastmasters International.
